Centuries
ago, European masters developed a technique rarely used or
perfected by most modern day artists, "Painting on Glass."
Our pieces entitled, "Madame Butterfly," and "Carolyn's Texas,"
exhibit the use of this ancient process of glass painting.
In the early Gothic period, craftsman would mix their paints
from powdered pigments, apply them wet, stipple the designs
into the dried paint and then bake the glass which permanently
imbedded the colors. Since 1981, our studio has been painting
on glass, going through the same time consuming processes
as ancient artisans, except, our glass is kiln-fired, and
the temperatures range between 1100º - 1350º F.
A final thought . . . after many centuries of mainly
being recognized as church art, stained glass and the art
of painting on it, have become a unique expression of today's
contemporary art. And, let's not forget, glass by its very
nature is already a magical medium.
Please Note: Because of shipping costs and the danger
of breakage during transit, all Art Glass commissions are
restricted to local clientele.
